In the tenth year of The War I served on the USS Independence<\/em>, a newly built and fresh-crewed American Fleet Carrier.\u00a0 It was good to be home again, but seeing all those smartly dressed and drilled academy graduates thinking they were ready for war was real hard.\u00a0 I always think of them on Independence Day now.\u00a0 That and so many other days.\u00a0 We\u2019re alive and free because men and women like them signed their lives on the doted line.\u00a0 Because they still do.\u00a0 Never Forget.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
