America was a small power with regional goals in 1812. We wanted to live. Britain wanted to smack us back and tell us what to do. Maybe return us the fold. We fought back. They smashed us flat. Burned our capital to the ground. We managed a victory at the Battle of New Orleans, and ran with that for centuries. It was the bright spot of the War of 1812. The point where we stuck it to the man and survived. And that was victory for us. Survival. For the British, they had much larger concerns than us. The Russians. The French. The Spanish. The Ottomans. The Austro-Hungarians. There were great empires on the rise and on the fall, and the British wanted to bring their regiments home to deal with Napoleon.<\/p>\n
American is a great power with global goals in 2026. We want to keep peace and Western Civilization alive. Iran wants to stuff it to the man. They want to stick it to both the Great Satan and the Little Satan, and they want to drive out everybody who does not believe as they do with a wave of terrorism that has already killed tens of thousands of people. But America has concerns. The Russians. The Chinese. They could kill millions if not held at arm’s length. We can’t afford to keep our fleets centered on a regional power that can’t reach us right now when enemies that can are trying to hurt us. So victory for us is getting back home with a still functional global economy. And victory for the religious zealots who conquered Iran is survival.<\/p>\n
Victory comes in many forms. And there can be more than one victor in war. And more than one loser as well. And history likes to repeat itself.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
