Jack nodded. It would be the smart move. Avengers were hypercapable and his cargo wasn\u2019t important enough to die for. But he still had one question, and he aimed a hard look at the freighter that had fired on them. \u201cNot without knowing what\u2019s in those cargo pods.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah\u2026I know,\u201d Betty said and let out a long sigh.<\/p>\n

\u201cBetty?\u201d Jack asked as he saw her deflate.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re hauling people<\/em>, Jack,\u201d she reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrak,\u201d Jack swore and lowered his head. \u201cLet me guess. This isn\u2019t an official prison transport?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNot considering the people I\u2019m seeing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWho you got in there?\u201d<\/p>\n

Betty shrugged. \u201cMajor media personalities from all over the sector. I\u2019m seeing movie stars, musicians, politicians, and more. They\u2019re from too many systems to have all been arrested.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo\u2026not official.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo. But, Jack\u2026these are really famous people. You\u2019ve met some of them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cReally?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jack frowned and rubbed his jaw for several seconds as he looked back to the two approaching ships. \u201cIf they were missing, we would have heard it on the news, right?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no way this many missing celebrities wouldn\u2019t be major news.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo this ship and these people shouldn\u2019t be here,\u201d Jack said and sighed.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, Jack. They shouldn\u2019t.\u201d Betty aimed a sad look at him. \u201cI\u2019m sorry, but we don\u2019t know enough to make sense of this.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd you know how much I hate a mystery,\u201d Jack muttered.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo we aren\u2019t going to make the smart tactical move, are we?\u201d Jasmine asked in a resigned tone.<\/p>\n

\u201cNope.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGot it,\u201d Jasmine said and made a show of a pre-combat stretch. \u201cSo how are we going to handle this? Shoot first, or talk first?\u201d<\/p>\n
