I was hopeful that Disney, a company known for making bright and hopeful movies, would do well with Star Wars when they bought it. Until they broke up one of the greatest romances in film history, downgraded Leia from President of the galaxy to a general, and replaced Han and Leia’s three children with a darkside brat wearing the name of Luke’s son. Until they turned Luke Skywalker into a bitter old hermit who gave up on the galaxy. Now the new Clone Wars shows us a Jedi Order failing nearly as badly as the Republic, and I realize something. We don’t see enough snarky and hopeful people wise cracking as they fight the bad guys now. I can’t find the hope and brightness that Star Wars was built on now. I do not like this new Star Wars of now.
I have been a major fan of Star Wars since I was young. I first watched the movies in the early 80s, not long after Jedi came out. I had a friend who loved them and I watched the movies with him first. Thus a lifelong love set hold. I liked the way Star Wars was told. It was light and fun, with the diverse alliance of good guys at war with the evil space nazis, trying to rebuild and restore the Republic to the galaxy. That was Star Wars then, when I was young, built on hope and dreams, and I loved it. I still do, and I always will.
I grew up with Rosalie and Rosalind. They were my best friends, and when The War came upon us all, we fought the Shang together. We continued to work together after War’s End. Follow this link to see a collection of my diary entries about them.
I don’t know what the future has in store for Rosalie and Rosalind. Or what they have in store for the future. Rosatech continues to push out new genetic treatments every year. They actually showed up for the last annual meeting of the board, for something like five minutes. They’ve got something up their sleeves, and I’m betting they’re going to be throwing us all another curve ball soon. I can’t wait to see it. I’m always going to want to have them on my team, and I’m always ready to show up on their team whenever they call. No reservations. No hesitation. I will always answer their call. It’s what friends are for, and those two girls are the very best of friends. Always have been. Always will be.
If I had a dime for every interesting little toy Rosalie and Rosalind have given me over the years, I’d be a truly rich man. I haven’t used more than a tithe of them yet, but I keep them all against the day they come in handy. Not that I can tell you what most of the toys do. But every once in a while, when I’m about to go some place, I’ll get a message telling me to take one. And wouldn’t you know it, the thing turns out to be useful. It might be a tracker for some rare particle I’ve never run into before, or it might be some cheap but ingenious thing some local will find amazing and give me information I need. I usually have no idea what the mystery box has until the time comes. I just listen to my girls and haven’t regretted that yet.
