Rosalie and Rosalind told me I had to ask Julie about the bruises on her arms. And why she wore sweaters and jeans so often. They made me promise to give her all the time she needed, and I never broke a promise I made them. So I listened to Julie’s explanations, but I didn’t believe them for a moment. I’d watched her on the beach when she was wearing considerably less. Beach volleyball was always one of my favorite sports doncha know? I knew she wasn’t that clumsy. And in time she realized I didn’t believe her. That I’d never believed her. But I was still there, waiting for the truth. That is when she told me. That was when all of our worlds changed.
