It is interesting that we would have been happy to remain British forever.  Some of us were outcasts, the dregs of English society, pilgrims who came looking for freedom from religious oppression.  Others of us were businessmen, come to make more money.  But we were all British.  We wanted to be British.  Most of us thought we were loyal to England.  But England did not agree.
