Actually I do know why the Chinese defended Gamma Trianguli.  I guess it’s just hard to understand.  I mean there are plenty of nicer places to live out there that have good mineral deposits.  But I guess it was on the way to the Hyades or something.  Even through the expense of the sunshades it became a profitable mining colony.  Especially since the Chinese force-colonized it with Tibetan nationals.  They didn’t have a choice of where they would live.
