Jack of Harts Background

The Shang are not the primary antagonists of the Jack of Harts universe in my own mind. They are powerful enemies, make no mistake. And they do want to drive Earth out of the stars. But they are not an insane villain seeking to do bad things for the jollies of it. They believe that we are too dangerous to be allowed a foothold of power. They sought to tame us to their ways, to make us less dangerous, and gave us a century to properly bow before them. They only attacked us when we refused to bow to them. Now I understand that makes them sound like an antagonist, and I agree that they are. And they absolutely are the antagonists of The War. But they are not the PRIMARY antagonists of the Jack of Harts universe.

The Shang appear to be the primary antagonists of the Jack of Harts universe. They want to either conquer or drive Earthborn humanity out of space. They are killing humans in job lots. And there never seems to be an end to their fleets. They just keep coming, no matter how many the Western Alliance destroys. And when they first showed up a century before attacking us, they even proclaimed themselves to be our gods, returning to guide us into the future. China signed up for the Shang train, and enjoyed a century of economic and technological boom times. And an unopposed campaign of expansion into the depths of the Hyades Cluster that they quickly built into one of the most industrialized centers of power in known space.

The Masks Are Off

We live in a world where people can see people walking house to house through town after town, killing everyone in it, and then demonstrate in favor of the people doing the killing. They can chant slogans about driving people into the sea or gassing them. Their masks are off. They’ve taken them off. They are unafraid to let the rest of us know that they are on Team Beheading Babies. This is a moral clarion call. You cannot be on both Team Beheading Babies and Team Civilization. You are either one or the other. And the two teams cannot coexist peacefully. The one will always try to kill the other. The masks are off, and it is time we accepted it and acted on it.

Good Guys With Guns

One of the major Israeli heroes coming out of the last few days is the 25-year old Inbar Lieberman. She is an Israeli Defense Force veteran and head of security of a kibbutz near Gaza, and she heard the terrorists coming. She broke the armory open, deployed the security team of her little town, and they dealt with over twenty terrorists in a four-hour gun battle until the army showed up and drove off the survivors. She and her people are true Good Guys With Guns who saved dozens of lives during the worst terror attack in recent memory. And if suitably dealing with terrorists wasn’t enough, she likes the doggos. Seriously guys, if you need a role model, be like Inbar. We could use a lot more good guys and girls like her in the world.

Civilization

Hamas attacked Israel, again, this weekend. They attacked by land, sea, and air. Blew holes in the wall. Flew paragliders over the wall. Took boats around the wall. They decapitated babies. They raped girls to death in fields filled with those they had already slain. They shot grandparents. They went door to door through over twenty villages and slaughtered everyone. They recorded and transmitted this over social media. They killed somewhere around a thousand civilians, and kidnapped another hundred to use as hostages. And people around the world demonstrated in support of these animals. They have shown they do not wish to live in the civilization, the world, we have built. It is time to grant them their wish.
