Rosalie and Rosalind were just thrilled to their core at the new life they were going to live with those two boys from England. Graduation was coming soon, and all the paperwork to start a new practice in Northern Minnesota was completed. Every wild uplifted in the area would be welcomed into their clinic, free of charge thanks to some rather substantial grants they’d managed to get the State of Minnesota to stand behind. They were going to make the world a better place for every sentient being that lived on it. That was their dream. They even asked me to help them, along with this real sweet girl I was actually slowing down to spend time with. I hadn’t said yes, yet, but they all knew I was going to. It was an amazing life we had planned.
The Republicans are going to be in charge of the House in a month, which means they will be in a position to push a narrative. That narrative will influence, and maybe determine, the next election cycle. They must fight the narratives that have been aimed at them. Show how they are wrong. Bring into evidence in House sessions the video evidence that can show how wrong the other narratives are. The videos we have of people calling for violence on January 6. The people who put on brand new Trump gear and walked into the crowd shouting. Aim the narrative at the instigators of violence. Then press a positive narrative as well. Not just what they stand against, but what they stand for. Because narratives matter, and without them you cannot win.
The narrative for years now has been that Republicans are Fascist, Racist, Homophobic, conspiracy theorists, election deniers, deplorables, and insurrectionists. The narrative has been without an answer in the government and the mass media. But now the Republicans have a chance to change the narrative. They will be in charge of the House, and they can press for Congressional investigations. Which means they can put evidence into the record that can press their own narrative. They need to fight the Democrat narrative if they wish to have any chance of victory in the next election. Because narratives matter, and it is hard to get people to vote for you, when the narrative is always against you. So they have to make certain their narrative sees the light of day.
Narratives matter, especially when control of every major organ of government and mass media network has been achieved. Democrats have accused the Republicans of being election deniers, conspiracy theorists, or insurrectionists for years, and the mass media echoed their call. That made a difference in the last election, as it alienated some Independents and even some Republicans. And yet, a recent major poll shows that 70% of Americans believe major election fraud occurred in recent elections, including around half of Democrats and Independents. The Democrats and even some Republicans overlook the fraud since it is aimed to remove Facists, Racists, and other ists from society and political power. The narrative declares the other side evil, and that matters.
We had another election last week, and the expected person lost. It emphasizes the trends we saw on election night. One of those trends is that candidates matter. No matter how good your campaign or the movement that supports it, you must pick candidates that can make the electorate passionate about them. If you look at the close campaigns this season, it was almost always the candidate people could be passionate about who won. The astronaut. The pastor. The stroke victim bravely fighting on. Candidates matter. Yes, there are other important issues, but the vessel that carries those issues must be selected carefully, or the issues will lose.
