Did we just have a third assassination attempt against Donald Trump? Well that is the question now. We know sheriff deputies arrested a man with loaded firearms attempting to get into a Trump event in California. The sheriff says it looks like an assassination attempt to him. The arrested guy says he is a fan of Trump. The Feds are saying Trump was never in danger. And that’s about it. It’s been thee months since the first assassination attempt, and we still don’t know much about it either. I don’t expect things to get much clearer in the near future.
A SpaceX booster just lifted off from its cradle to launch a starship into orbit before flying back to land in the cradle it departed 7 minutes previously. “Single Stage to Infinity” is the dream according to Arlan Andrews, and this isn’t there yet, but it most certainly did “take off and land vertically, the way God and Robert Heinlein intended.” Also Arlan Andrews. This is so far up the technological ladder compared to where we were even ten years ago that it isn’t even funny. This was science fiction twenty years ago. This is the future now. This is the Moon. This is Mars. This is us becoming an interplanetary civilization in my lifetime. This is our species escaping the single billiard ball of doom. This is huge.
In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue…
And not long after some adventurous Spaniards helped the downtrodden locals overthrow the tyrants sacrificing thousands of them a year to their dark gods, thereby making the New World a better place.
Your Welcome. 🙂
Happy Columbus Day.
I play BattleTech, and I am one of those collectors who loves his old FASA stuff. And one of my friends who has been jonesing hard to get a regular BattleTech game going at his house wanted to game this weekend. So some dice got thrown, and we did some serious brainstorming about the future. So I got home, pulled out my old 3025 Mercenaries Handbook, and went to work building an old school merc unit for long term play. A company of mechs including a Locust, a couple Phoenix Hawks, a Warhammer, a Marauder, a Crusader, and several others. Add in six mixed infantry platoons, and a reinforced light armor company and I have everything from infantry transports to choppers to a nice light cavalry lance of Drillsons and Pegasuss. All flying in on an Invader, a Union escorted by a pair of Corsairs, and two Furies to hold all the support fun. And yes, if you aren’t into BattleTech, you now know how we geek feels when people talk about their fantasy football teams. Hehehe. So anyways, I think I’ve got a plan for future games, and that is awful nice. Now to throw it past the Big Guy and see what he thinks. 🙂
Hurricane Milton has come and gone and Florida is rebuilding. Again. Meanwhile the Appalachians are still smashed into smithereens. Not a surprise really. Florida gets hit by a hurricane and it’s Tuesday. The Appalachians aren’t really what we would consider hurricane alley. So when a hurricane stops on top of them and drowns them, they are going to be a while recovering. It doesn’t help that FEMA says they are out of money and is mostly going in to tell other people what to do. So two weeks after Hurricane Helene pounded the snot out of Appalachia, private rescue, relief, and supply convoys continue flowing into the region in search of survivors who haven’t been contacted yet. The spirit of the American people in the face of catastrophe gives me hope for the human race.
