My mom had collected sixteen 30-quart flat boxes full of Christian romance novels by the time she died. That is hundreds of books all told, and most places were not interested in having more than a few of them. So I have been looking for a good home for the entire collection for a while. I finally found one. A Christian bookstore in a church that uses the proceeds to support missions. And mom graduated from a missionary college, so her legacy will go into supporting exactly what she always wanted to be. I delivered four boxes on Friday and they were happy to receive them. I told them I had sixteen total and the lady nodded and said that I should bring four more the following Friday, so her girls would have time to sort through this bonanza of books. I also had some bags of mom’s shoes in the back, preparing to take them to Salvation Army, and she told me that the church was running a shoe drive at the moment. So she happily took them as well. My mom would love it.
I wore political apparel like the old “I Like Ike” buttons when I was young, put Bush Senior bumper stickers on my cars, and signs in my yard. My car was vandalized, people destroyed the signs in my yard, and tore the political apparel off me. That cured me of wearing my politics on my sleeve many, many years ago. Now most people are perfectly fine running into people that disagree with them. Most people are happy to debate differences of opinion. But there are some who cannot stand the idea of people disagreeing with them. There are extremists like Antifa or BLM who are happy to commit physical acts of violence against such people. And right now in America, the leadership of the Democrat Party is actively encouraging them to hate and silence their political enemies, charging that they are very bad people who should be removed from their world. The extremists are happy to answer the call to violence, which makes the times rather dangerous for everyday Americans.
I watched the recent President Biden speech. From when the Marines marched in until Biden’s upbeat ending. I watched the lights turn blood red. I watched the Biden’s march up to the speaking stand to the martial music. I watched Biden shake his fist for the camera and yell angrily. I had the feeling that I’ve seen this speech before, many times, in historical recordings of speeches made over the last hundred years. The way he singled out a large group of citizens and called them a threat to the nation. How he accused those citizens of believing things and doing things that are antithetical to civilization, many of those things being what his own leadership has encouraged, and his own people have done. I have seen this kind of speech and rhetoric before, and those nations that remained on that path have progressed through dangerous and deadly ground for years or decades to come. We must stop this. Or what will come next will be far more dangerous for all of us.
Obama mocked Republicans for clinging to their guns and religion. Hillary called Republicans a basket of deplorables. Now Biden says Republicans are a threat to democracy. Democrat leaders have called on their supporters to drive Republicans out of restaurants and other public spaces. They’ve said there will be a reckoning. They’ve called parents that protest at school meetings domestic terrorists. And people have listened and responded to these charges. A Supreme Court Justice was recently targeted in an assassination attempt. Republican congressmen have been beaten or shot. Hundreds of everyday Republicans have been attacked on the streets. Some have been killed. The last few years have been dangerous times for everyday Americans, and they will get more dangerous. Because there will be more of this…
My mom had a lot of Christian romance books, and I have been trying to find a place to take them. A place that would make good use of them. I’ve talked to numerous churches and I ended up getting pointed to a Christian bookstore in my hometown. They are part of an evangelical church, and the proceeds of their sales go directly to missions. Mom graduated from Bethany Missionary College. It was her dream to be a missionary for God, but she was horribly terrified of speaking in public, so she was never sent into the field. They want her books. Now mom will help others do what she was called to do in life but never could.
