I like to listen to music when I write stories, and I have a play list specifically for that. Running Up That Hill by Placebo is one song on that list. The Kate Bush original is also on the list, but the Placebo cover will be the one I use when it comes time to write a story. It will be a death scene, written from the point of view of one of the Cowboys who died during The War. It will cover the moment they realized if they took one more step forward, there would be no coming back. And then, because others would die if they didn’t, they took the step and threw everything they had into getting the job done before they fell. I’ve never seen the official video, so all I have is the sound of the song to go by, but that is what it has always sounded like to me. And that is the story I will write while that song is playing. One of these days. 🙂
I listen to music when I write stories. I have a whole play list on youtube filled with songs that I like to listen to when I write. And sometimes, when writing a scene, I pick a single song and just play it over and over again to get me in the mood for that scene. One For the Money by Escape the Fate is a song I have not yet used for that purpose, but I intend to. Warning. It has some language. But it really is an awesome “kicking ass” song. I have this plan one day, maybe this year if my inner muse is any indication of what I’m looking to do next, of sitting down, putting that song on repeat, and kicking out a story where one of my Cowboys just chews through an entire group of bad guys.
Cowboy Bebop came out two decades ago, and is one of the best animes of all time. IMHO it is one of the best TV shows in any category, and it ends very bravely, with a fade to black after a deadly fight. The show creator has said that the main character died at the end, but I’ve always had this idea of a fan fiction where he survived. The death was figurative, him shedding the sins of the past and starting a new life. That writing prompt has hovered in the back of my mind for years. One of these days I will write the story, though suitably changed to fit into the Jack universe. I know who the guy is. I’ve got the rough story in mind, which means it really has been percolating in the back of mind for a while. Soon I will write it, and I hope it will work out as well.
I spent my Labor Day going to work and doing my labor. I guess a lot of people did not based on the number of stores and businesses that are closed. Never did make sense to me why people would choose not to labor on the day set aside to celebrate labor. But life is filled with such oddities. Lucky us. Whatever the case, my Labor Day is the first day of a six-day work week this week, so I will be getting some extra money. Much needed at the moment because a manager that is no longer here refused to enter in all of the vacation time I was entitled to while dealing with my mom’s end of life care. So many of my paychecks were a fair bit lighter than they were supposed to be. So this will be a nice boost for me. Cheers for all the people doing labor to get themselves better lives. 🙂
My mom had collected sixteen 30-quart flat boxes full of Christian romance novels by the time she died. That is hundreds of books all told, and most places were not interested in having more than a few of them. So I have been looking for a good home for the entire collection for a while. I finally found one. A Christian bookstore in a church that uses the proceeds to support missions. And mom graduated from a missionary college, so her legacy will go into supporting exactly what she always wanted to be. I delivered four boxes on Friday and they were happy to receive them. I told them I had sixteen total and the lady nodded and said that I should bring four more the following Friday, so her girls would have time to sort through this bonanza of books. I also had some bags of mom’s shoes in the back, preparing to take them to Salvation Army, and she told me that the church was running a shoe drive at the moment. So she happily took them as well. My mom would love it.
