MTG Final Fantasy
A card game came out back when I was kid. I got into it for a while. Saw a lot of black borders and unlimited, got a good collection, jumped into the expansion back before we knew what expansions were, and then a few months later another expansion came out. I called it quits at Ice Age and walked away. Never looked back.
Until this weekend. This weekend they put out a Final Fantasy version of the game, and Final Fantasy is my jam. Especially FFVI. FFVI I grew up with. Terra’s theme has been the ring tone on every cellphone I have ever had. Terra and Celes have been my two favorite characters in gaming since I was a kid. The twin stories of finding out who you are and finding redemption for what you did have stuck with me all my life.
So I got back into the game this weekend with two goals. I wanted a Terra card and a Celes card. I bought my first case of MTG booster cards in three decades and got neither. But I got some good cards I figured I could trade for them. I walked into the launch event, got my launch deck, and found Terra in it. Put her out in almost every game. After the event, I traded Sephiroth to a friend who wanted him. He had nothing I wanted so I said to take it and we would find something later. Five minutes later he pulled Celes from a booster and smiled at me because he knew.
So I walked out with Terra and Celes and I am happy. I do not know if I am back into MTG or not, but I am there for the Final Fantasy and they did good with it.
