Captain William Carter
Captain William Carter graduated from Yale College in New Haven, spoke multiple languages thanks to his father’s trade and the Yale language department, and when the Continental Congress called for volunteers he answered. He crossed the Delaware on Christmas 1776 to hunt Hessians. A Hessian vampire hunted him right back, bit him, and changed everything. By God’s grace he didn’t turn. Instead he gained strength, resilience, and a sharp sense for the veil between our world and the things that go bump in the night. Benjamin Franklin recruited him into a small group of Colonial monster hunters, and Bill’s been protecting mankind from otherworldly threats ever since.
He doesn’t age anymore. He still looks like a youngish man around 25-35 whether he’s riding the 1870s frontier or stepping into 1992 arcades full of the same Indian spirits he grew up learning about from the Indians living near his boyhood home. I love sliding him into real American history because he’s a quiet man of faith who smites the darkness to protect civilization rather than preach about it. Clean adventures my Christian family and friends can enjoy without worry, written from the perspective of a man who has seen it all and takes everything in stride. He is the very embodiment of the prepared hero. The competent hero. He may not always know what is going on, but he always comes up with a plan to deal with it. He lives the idea of “It is better to do something quickly than do nothing and let the situation get worse.”
Of course, sometimes that means he makes the situation worse. 😉
