Mishipeshu Rising has been released as part of the Tentacles and Tides anthology. Don’t worry, this isn’t a Japanese manga, so not those kinds of tentacles.

The ExtraOrdinary Beasts anthologies each take a subject matter and see how different authors address them. The Phoenix. The Griffin. The Gargoyle. I have a piece in the third one, with Gargoyles in 1830s New Haven.

Now in Tentacles and Tides, Captain William Carter has gone to Lake Superior of the 1850s to face a monster that inhabits what the Indians call “The Great Sea.” Mishipeshu guards the sea and all the riches in it, and many a White Man ship has sunk to the bottom of that great body of water after angering this guardian. This monster. That and many other tales of creatures coming from the depths of the great waters of our world can be found in Tentacles and Tides.
