One of the fun things about writing House of Sand was coming up with concept art for the characters I intended to write. And the environment I planned to write them. An abandoned fortress in the Syrian desert. A waystation on the Damascus Road out of Palmyra. I found maps of the area, pictures of the area, and took the prexisting character art I had, and fed it all into Grok Imagine and asked it to show my characters in the crumbling fortress. There was a bit more to it than that. As usual, the AI got a lot more wrong than it got right, and I had to iterate through many prompts to get to the results I wanted. In the end though, I got some good results that look cool.

Here is Captain William Carter in House of Sand. I hope you will get to read that story soon.
