In the final “negotiations” for Peace with the Allies, Austria lost sixty percent of her land to Allied-backed minority populations, while Hungary lost seventy-two percent.  In a matter of months, nearly a thousand years of industrial progress and growing civilization was severed into postage stamp ethnic nations commanded by whichever strong man made it to the top of the heap.  Governments rose and fell in months, and only chaos reigned throughout central Europe.
