The cease-fire that ended full-scale combat in the Korean War brought an uneasy peace to the world. Korea had been the first major standoff between the dueling ideologies of socialism and capitalism and had ended in a draw. The Cold War had begun and both sides knew they could not afford to lose the next time. Preparations were made, new weapons researched, alliances established, and soon the world was split between the two not-quite-warring ideologies.
