Raconteur Press is publishing a new Wyrd Warfare anthology this week, and it will be including one of my stories. Captain William Carter, hunter of otherworldly creatures and threats to mankind, returns for the first time. Not all short stories in chronological order after all. If you want to brush up on Captain William Carter before seeing how he fights in war, check out how he fights when he’s had a drink of something Faery in From the Brim to the Dregs. What would you do if you can see the future? Would you claim it or let it slip through your fingers?
A lawyer funded by George Soros who promised she would have the Wisconsin District Map redrawn to remove two Republican seats from the federal House of Representatives just won her election. She has also fought voter ID and other voting integrity laws. This is one of the ways in which the Democrats seek to resist and fight against their foes. If we dare to vote for people they don’t want to be elected, they’ll just remove our opportunity to vote for them.
Just as the unelected bureaucrats fight or ignore the orders of our elected representatives and as the unelected federal judges stop our elected representatives from firing the unelected bureaucrats so they can continue to fight our elected representatives. Or as the unelected judges simply order our elected representatives to not do what they were elected to do.
This is a full scale resistance against our elected representatives and the vote of the people. And if the unelected portions of our government prove powerful enough to stop the elected officials from performing much needed reforms in the government, it will prove that we no longer live in a representative form of government. That we live in a nation where unelected experts tell us what we are allowed to do. If they prove that is the kind of system we have, that will not be good for any of us.
Today is April Fools.
That means you should trust anything written today just as much as you should trust it any other day…
Distrust and verify.
Why should a nation defend themselves? Well, for starters, because its a basic part of being a nation. Every nation should be able to summon the ability to defend itself from both foreign and domestic enemies. If for no other reason than to be proud of itself. Strength and the ability to defend those you love makes a people feel better about themselves. Also, if you can defend yourselves you are less dependent on the whims of others to survive. Finally, if you can defend yourself, you are a better ally to others.
Right now we are seeing our allies bellying up to the bar and looking at paying to build up their own internal defenses. That is a good thing. It will make them less vulnerable to the political mood swings of OUR nation if they can look at us, say whatever president we have at the time is an idiot, and just ignore him. Imagine how much harder Israel could have hit Hamas if they didn’t have to worry about Biden cutting weapons sales to them. Imagine Germany being able to shrug off the hit to their energy sector that happened when “somebody” blew up the pipeline they were buying gas from Russia with. Imagine Denmark being able to tell everybody, including the United States, to just eff off and get off their land, because they could shoot anybody who stepped a foot on their land without their permission.
All of those would be good things. We’ve tried a world over the last thirty years where America was the single ruler of The West and everybody else had to do what our Neocons thought was best. Look at where that has gotten us? The United States should not be the lone protector of the Free World. I don’t WANT us to be the lone protector of the Free World. NONE of us should want that. We SUCK at being the lone protector. But if there are many protectors, if there are many Western Nations that stand up in favor of Freedom, than Freedom will be more resilient to outside threats.
And there are many, many threats to Freedom. We’ve seen them in our own nations, and we’ve seen them in others. And all of us need to be able to defend all of us from those threats.
I grew up with computers. I learned how to run them and how to live with them. I communicate with them and I love them. And I do not trust them.
That is why my home locks are physical. That is why i aggressively disable any always on assistant programs. That is why all of my appliances predate wifi connections.
All of that said, now that AI learning models are getting good, I do intend to build an AI assistant for my own uses. An open source model vetted by people as paranoid as me and operating entirely inside my home with no data being broadcast to anyone else. MY AI assistant will actually be my AI assistant, not the property of someone else that reports everything I do.
That is how much I love and trust computers. 🙂
