The school year was almost over by the time Twilight, Dixie, and her gang of misfits collected enough information to damn their principle in a court of law. Most of it had even been obtained legally, and they could fake the rest good enough to fool the police. The evidence went in the mail the morning of the graduation and they congratulated themselves on having taken down a really bad person. By the time graduation was over, they didn’t need any evidence to prove anything at all.
By 2205 human scouts had traveled over one hundred lightyears from Earth. We had settled dozens of star systems as far out as thirty lightyears. We knew if we ever made Contact with aliens it would be out on the frontiers when our starships met them. It was a matter of faith to us, never questioned because anything else was unthinkable. We were an interstellar species. We would meet others in interstellar space. Then the Peloran made Contact with a British destroyer. Inside the Terran star system.
I prefer visiting planets to space stations. You don’t have to worry about the gravity going out, and I like the feel of real sun on my face. And then there’s the girls. Planetside girls are a lot more impressed by finding out I fly through space. There’s actually a lot of people that never leave the planet they were born on, and people like me end up looking awful adventurous. I’ve gotten more first dates than I can count by asking if they wanted a ride in my spaceship. And Captain Jack always delivers.
When Twilight uncovered the dirty little secret of Texas Tech’s president, it could have shattered the college. She told Dixie first though. They kept their knowledge to themselves at first as they worked to uncover more information. They brought the inner circle of students, teachers, and soldiers into the loop within days, and that was when things got interesting. There was some vigorous debate over whether they should move immediately or gather more information. Energetic even.
As many of you know, I have published four different Jack of Harts stories. They are available, should you wish to purchase them, from three online retailers at this time. Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and DriveThru Fiction. I intend to look at other venues for sales, including a store of my own, but this is the current way to obtain finished Jack of Harts fiction. You can of course read the original drafts with all their errors and typos for free on jackofharts.com. Those will remain forever available if you wish to see the genesis of Jack. 🙂
