Three years ago, people were coming to the capital to take part in a permitted protest against what a large percentage of the American population thought was an election filled with fraud and cheating. Intelligence suggested that bad people were going to do bad things at the protest, and Trump approved local law enforcement to be able to call on the National Guard to maintain order and protect both the protestors and the capitol. Capitol Hill said they didn’t need DOD support to maintain order and did not make the call.
I keep most politics out of my stories, but I do have the military and the police as good guys. Given current politics that would label it heavily right wing. 😉 Most of the viewpoint characters are from places like the Republic of Texas or Northern Minnesota, both of which have a frontier mindset. Several characters are from the New England Federation, which is more of an Oligarchy posing as a futuristic Democracy. Very cheap fusion power and fabricators make anything necessary to live, making it very much a post-scarcity economy in the vein of Star Trek. Money still exists, but it is used for luxuries, not necessities. That makes politics different, though as in all things, the more things change, the more things stay the same…
Halloween and Thanksgiving snow has come and gone, and Minnesota brought us New Years ice good and hard. But don’t worry, because I ring in the New Year with another game of BattleTech Alpha Strike this coming Friday, 5PM, at Gamez and More.
Rochester Minnesota, on the west end of River Center Plaza across from Silver Lake Shopping Center on North Broadway.
Join me between 5pm and 7pm if you want to play a quick game or two of Alpha Strike.
I bring everything needed to play, so just bring yourself.
Happy New Years!
Bring your Hawaiian shirt and your shades. Walk in softly. Watch the corners and doors. Stay frosty. You don’t know what’s out there, waiting for an unwary reveler to walk in on unaware. I’m rooting for you to make it 2025. 🙂
I watched Aquaman 2 over the weekend and I enjoyed it. My elevator pitch for that movie would be a buddy cop movie with superheroes and add family drama. It made me laugh. It made me smile. And sometimes it even made me think. He even owns the seahorse and dares you to call him on it. If this truly is the last of the DC movie universe, it was a good way to end it. A fun bright movie watching this version of Aquaman smack talk his way through bad guys. And the good guys as well. I enjoyed my time. Was there Hollywood woke in it? Yes. The big bad enemy attacked us with manmade global warming, but it was done by effectively alien tech, so it wasn’t REALLY manmade global warning. Hehehe. It wasn’t bad enough to drag down a very good movie.
