Venezuela
America hit Venezuela last night with over one hundred aircraft, supporting drones, and enough ground forces, probably Marines, to generate local air and ground superiority over the local armed forces. We suppressed local air defenses enough that helicopters could move in, drop their troops, and send law enforcement in to arrest the self-titled President of Venezuela. Remember that he lost the last election, then declared he won, and dared everybody to do something about it.
Today, someone did something about it, arrested him and his wife before they could even get to their safe door, put them onto the helicopters, and took them back to the American fleet. Reports are that they are now in New York City being given the charges they were charged with years ago.
I don’t know where we go from here. I don’t know how other countries react. What I do know is this. This is the second nation whose military air defense was provided by the Soviets, the Russians, or the Chinese (all of whom use Soviet-derived technology) that our air force, or an air force using our technology, has suppressed to the point that we were able to send in planes that were never even seen by the local defenders or air defense systems. This is a crushing technological advantage that we have shown in the last year.
I don’t know what that says for full scale war, if we see it in the future. But in limited strikes like this, we have shown that our training and technology are so far advanced that the enemy can KNOW we are coming, be fully prepared for us to come, and we still just roll in on the night we choose, do what we want to do, and roll back out without anybody shooting our people down. On the other side of the world, or in our own backyard. This is a truly crushing technology and training advantage, and I think it is making everybody else question if they want to really fight us. At least I hope that is what it is doing.
We shall see I think.
