Looking back on it now, it seems crazy that a minor personal bedroom project on my part rollercoastered into a significant investment of Cybernetic Council resources. They created a new simulated world they operate in real time to this day. They negotiated a perpetual and non-cancelable license to run the simulation for eternity. Millions of fans visit that simulation every year. Yes. I am one of the Founding Day members that kickstarted THAT world simulation. Literally. I kicked the emperor and the cream of his big bad enforcers in the heads and I shot them all. Okay. So did a few thousand other people. But it felt good to plant my boots in those kissers. And to shoot them. A lot. We tore down an empire that day. It was a good day.
Tai had a plan to conduct a major raid from the outside to topple the empire. Now she was using a non-insignificant amount of Cybernetic Council processing power to run all of this, so she invited them along for the fun. She also asked all the game AIs I’d created if they wanted to take part. She asked my real life friends. She asked my mom and dad. She talked to fans of the original game. She ended up pulling in thousands of people by the time we went in, linked us up with the “time travelers,” and then all of us hit the empire like a ton of bricks. I got to help create a new world with my mom, my dad, my friends, and thousands of new friends all at my side. Absolute. Bar none. Most EPIC raid of my young life.
The cream of the imperial fleet was defeated, but the empire that built it was still powerful. And even with the “time travelers” firmly on the kingdom’s side, they didn’t have enough power to break the empire. To end the threat it posed both to them and all the other realms. It was going to take some major adjustments to the simulation to change the status quo, and Tai had promised the king that she would make his people safe. She could have just dropped a virtual meteor on the imperial capital and written out everything and everybody there, but she wanted to fix things as part of the story, instead of just editing ones and zeros. Tai asked if I wanted to be a Big Damn Hero. Well… duh. Of course I did. I was ALWAYS in for THAT kind of ride.
The kingdom was saved. The cream of the imperial fleet was in their hands, and the traitor that betrayed them was dead. It was a good day for the “time travelers” and the kingdom they came back to save before it fell. They chose to stick around. All of them had younger selves living and working in the world, and they visited them. Told them where they came from. Gave advice when it was wanted. Attended family dinners and reunions. They were very open about what and who they were. They were honest, and the families they had grown up with welcomed their older selves. They made lives for themselves in a better version of the world they had grown up in. Tai made certain that was possible.
While the older king and princess landed on the ground to protect two royal families, the prince and his bodyguards assaulted the imperial ships that brought the invading imperials. They hit the cream of the imperial fleet in a devastating sneak attack that left it leaderless and rudderless in seconds. Then they jumped into the middle of the confrontation like Big Damn Heroes and nodded to the younger king and prince. The imperial troopers had retreated to the surrounding trees after the older king turned “The Look” on them. So when the older prince and his bodyguards advanced and gave them one chance, surrender or die, there was no hesitation. The imperials had no interest at all in dying for a battle already lost. They dropped their weapons and surrendered.
