Runalongs are a mystical creature that runs a long next to high speed vehicles like planes, trains, and automobiles with bored children inside. They take many forms. Running hounds. Leaping deer. Strange and otherworldly creatures of the imagination. Put your hand out, let the wind catch it just right, and you might feel them arching their backs up into the palm of your hand so you can pet them. Mine were X-Wing starfighters. Their mission, to buzz low and mow all that tall grass growing in the ditches while avoiding the power polls and other obstacles. They don’t come just for children though. On a long trip if someone else is driving, I see my old friends zipping along next to us again, like they were never more than a memory away.
So we’ve got drones flying around our bases, ships, and cities for the last month or three. Drones the size of cars according to some reports. Buses according to others. They’ve been hovering around military bases. Coast Guard ships. Flying in the skies over New Jersey. Our government says it isn’t us. DOD says they don’t know who it is. FBI says they don’t know who it is. All our government agencies say they don’t know who it is. So who is it? Did Russia get pissed enough with us launching missiles at them that they decided to give us a what for? Is it Iran? China? And does the government really not know who it is? Or do they know and just don’t want to tell us because they think we won’t like the answer? What do you think?
So while I was on vacation, a New York City jury was pondering over whether or not they should convict a Marine who protected women and children on a subway who were being threatened by a criminal high on drugs saying that someone was going to die. The fact that a self-defense case this blatant was even taken to trial should be excellent evidence at the prosecutor’s impeachment hearing. The jury found the Marine not guilty, which is a good start. I hope to see more of these malicious prosecutions thrown out by the juries in the future. Better yet, let’s get rid of the prosecutors that bring them while leaving the real criminals out on the streets and subways so they can threaten women and children.
I’m home from KSAGG. The Fifth Annual Krull Siblings Annual Gathering of Gamers. And the first one taking place in the old FFG gaming center. It was a fun time that included around one hundred gamers coming to place Alpha Strike and BattleTech. Somewhere around a dozen game masters and organizers ran the gamers through three Alpha Strike tournaments and one major BattleTech event, each bringing around twenty players a piece, and several smaller events brought players as well. I and a couple other grey beards ushered two newbies through the BattleTech Grinder, and I ran two through a Alpha Strike demos and one through BattleTech Encounters. It was a successful convention by all involved, and I loved it.
I’m coming home from KSAGG. That’s the Krull Siblings Annual Gathering of Gamers. It is absolutely not Krull Sisters A-Go-Go. It’s been a fun three days of BattleTech-themed gaming, and I am happy to have been here with all the friends I hadn’t met yet. Gaming truly does bring people together.
